3D scanning for VFX: locations and sets as production assets
We capture locations, sets, ride structures and themed environments as production-ready assets for virtual production and engine pipelines, so digital work starts from the real place.
Common problems for production teams
Digital work built from the real world goes wrong when the reference is weak. The usual causes:
- Locations and sets are available for a short window, with no time to re-measure later.
- Sets, ride structures and themed environments have no current drawings.
- Assets built by eye do not match the real space in scale.
- Raw scan data is too heavy for an engine pipeline until it is cleaned and optimized.
- Refurbishing an existing attraction starts from unknown existing conditions.
How 3D scanning helps production and design teams
Every project starts with a 3D laser scanning survey of the location or structure. Because the data is measured, scale matches the real place. The assets below are built from that one dataset.
VFX and Unreal Engine environments
We turn the scan into an optimized mesh and textures, and deliver them as an environment for virtual production and Unreal Engine.
Locations and sets
Real places are captured as they stand, so virtual production and VFX work starts from the real geometry and not from an approximation.
Themed environments and refurbishment
For ride structures and themed environments, the same scan gives measured existing conditions for refurbishment. Where a structure has no drawings, we rebuild it as clean CAD. See 3D scanning for reverse engineering.
Capture around your schedule
We work around operations and production, with nights and weekends on request. Capture ranges from about 20,000 sq ft a day in dense interiors like apartments, up to 200,000 sq ft a day in open spaces such as workshops or outdoor sites.

Straight answers on assets, formats and timing. Anything else, ask the capture lead directly.
Ask a questionWhat is 3D scanning for VFX?
3D scanning for VFX measures a real location, set or structure and turns the scan into assets for visual effects and virtual production. Because the data is measured, scale stays true to the real place.
Can you deliver assets for Unreal Engine?
Yes. We deliver optimized meshes, textures and a scene file as an Unreal Engine environment. Tell us your pipeline requirements when you request a quote.
Do you scan occupied or live sites?
Yes. We scan occupied and live sites, scheduled around operations, with nights and weekends on request. We sign an NDA on request, and your data is retained and shared on your terms.
What file formats do you deliver?
Point clouds come as E57, RCP, RCS or LAS. Drawings come as DWG, DXF or PDF, BIM models as RVT, IFC or NWD, and meshes as OBJ, FBX, STL or GLB. Imagery comes as a 360° panorama or an orthomosaic, and digital twins are web-hosted and measurable. Tell us what your team opens when you request a quote.
How long does a scan take?
Capture ranges from about 20,000 sq ft a day in dense interiors like apartments, up to 200,000 sq ft a day in open spaces such as workshops or outdoor sites. Aligning, cleaning and checking the scans adds about 2–3 days. Your quote states the schedule for your site.
